Welcome to my ~2 year long project, Dying Lite VR! This is a fan game of the flatscreen game Dying Light, one of my favorite pc games of all time. My game mostly started for a class project but I continued working on it and while I'm no AAA studio I'm proud of how far it has come. I've recreated many of the skills and abilities found in the original game as well as the procedural XP and leveling system. Now as for the graphics and story... they might be just a little simplified/ non-existent. But hey there's still a purpose and ending to the game.
Small update
-You can now pause the sun's rotation
-made the gym area a little easier
Early Access!
-completed the city, about 2-3x the size of demo
-added main objective to game with a whole new area and climbing challenges to explore as well as an ending to the game
-added text tutorials and descriptions in menus
-added music and volume control
-improved performance (recommend increasing GPU and CPU levels to 4 in sidequest to further help this)
-items now despawn if not picked up
-made some changes to movement system, and reworked some parkour abilities
-added a couple more combat skills
-dying no longer resets you progress, just sends you to the last respawn point (set by spike tables)
-you can now hold the X button to respawn if you get stuck
-made some small changes to the starting gym
-I decided to keep the app parkour and combat xp buttons as I have not yet implemented a save system yet and the game can still crash on occasion though not as much as before. (I think casting screen increasing the risk of crashing)
Zombie & Night Update!
-Added zombie model and animations
-Vastly improved zombie movement system so they can climb and jump
-Greatly improved the climbing system's stability and reliability
-Added day and night cycle with flashlights for the dark
(don't get caught at night without one)
-Add shoulder slots for carrying weapons and a head slot for a flashlight
-Added crouching button "B", you can choose between physical, button, or both crouching options in the menu
-Added toggleable fps display
-Improved performance with fog and shorter render distance
-About tripled the size of the city and added some new buildings
-decreased max number of zombies to help performance
City Update!
It's not the biggest but I've started the construction of my open city, it might still be a bit glitchy but it should work somewhat
Mechanics:
-Wall running/climbing
-sliding
-Climbing
-Grapple hook
-Parkour experience + procedural skills and skill tree like the original game
-Combat experience + procedural skills and skill tree
-For now just the basic zombies, fractured zombies are bad for performance
-Zombie and weapon spawners in the city + setting for zombie spawns
